NOCSAE Board Member
The NOCSAE board of directors represents a diverse and passionate group of sport and medical professionals who work together toward the common goal of reducing sport-related injuries. They serve without compensation.
Mike Sims has represented the National Athletic Trainers Association on NOCSAE’s board of directors for over thirty years. Mike joined Southwest Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics in Waco, Texas, in July 2017 and serves as the manager of Sports Medicine. Mike is an inductee in the Cedar Hill High School Longhorn Legacy Hall of Fame (2022); the Baylor University Line Foundation Hall of Fame (2021); the Texas State Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame (2021); the Baylor Athletic Department “B” Association Hall of Fame (2018); and the Southwest Athletic Trainers Association (SWATA) Hall of Fame (2017). Additional recognitions include the SWATA Most Distinguished Award (2013); and the NATA Service Award (2007).
Receiving his Undergraduate and MS degrees from Baylor University, Mike began his thirty-six-year career as an athletic trainer at the university. In 2015, he was promoted to the position of associate athletic director of athletic training.
Mike participates on multiple boards and committees including the Big XII Drug Testing Appeals Committee (2010-2016) and the McLennan County Community College EMS Advisory Board (current).
Mike served on the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Ethics Committee for sixteen years (1990-2006), including seven years as Committee chair (1999-2006).
The National Athletic Trainers’ Association is the professional membership association for certified athletic trainers and others who support the athletic training profession. The NATA works to represent, engage, and foster the continued growth and development of the athletic training profession and athletic trainers as unique healthcare providers.
