licensure

Before manufacturers begin SEI’s certification program, they are required to enter into a license agreement with NOCSAE. This enables their use of NOCSAE trademarked and registered properties, marks, and logos once their equipment model(s) is certified by the Safety Equipment Institute. Licensure also imposes special obligations on the manufacturer and gives NOCSAE certain enforcement powers.

LICENSE AGREEMENTS

NOCSAE license agreements obligate manufacturers and reconditioners to maintain detailed quality control and quality assurance programs. For manufacturers, this includes testing randomly selected helmets during production to make sure they meet the NOCSAE standards.

Part of the SEI certification process is to assess manufacturers’ QA-QC plans.

NOCSAE-licensed reconditioners test randomly selected samples before and after reconditioning.

certification by SEI

When all requirements provided in NOCSAE standards are met by a NOCSAE-licensed manufacturer for a specific model, the Safety Equipment Institute issues a letter of certification for that model. This means SEI is certifying that the model is compliant with NOCSAE standards.

NOCSAE has not and does not certify products or equipment, and we do not certify a manufacturer.
